Tunisia's capital lies at the western end of the shallow Lake Tunis which opens to the sea at La Goulette. The main focus of ville nouvelle is the wide tree-lined Avenue Habib Bourguiba. At its western end this major thoroughfare becomes the Avenue de France terminating in the Place de la Victoire and the entrance to the medina.
