At the centre of it all, not just taking part

During your cruise, you can enjoy a wide selection of organised shore excursions (subject to a charge). See the most important sights, for example, on classic scenic journeys or city tours. Get to know the countries and their people during sporty activities such as snorkelling, hiking or bicycle tours or see the world from a new perspective on flights or boat tours. We are also pleased to go that extra mile on your behalf with special arrangements, such as organising special opening times at important cultural venues or exclusive concerts in an unusual setting.

You can see which excursions are planned for your cruise in the shore excursion brochure, which you will receive about three months before your cruise. Then you can prebook your required excursions prior to departure at your travel agency or at My booking. Naturally, you can also still decide once on board (subject to availability).

Zodiac trips

Our Zodiacs will take you to hidden places and areas that are difficult to access, take you on further where other ships have to turn back and enable you to go ashore in places that may otherwise seem impossible. Your experiences in these places will become unforgettable memories. Let the Zodiacs take you straight into your next adventure, such as into the network of tributaries on the Amazon, to idyllic beaches in the South Seas or in search of impressive glacial landscapes. Experienced experts will always be on hand to show you what to look out for. These experiences are part of all of our expedition cruises and are also included in the cruise price on selected EUROPA and EUROPA 2 cruises. Eco-excursions*

The protection of nature is very important to us and it is an integral part of our concept. We therefore focus strongly on the environment for our sustainable eco excursions. Discover our planet’s most beautiful regions on foot, by bicycle or with low-carbon transport. Alternatively, you can reach the nearby natural environments and the starting points for tour experiences with just a short transfer.

Golf shore excursions*

Experience an exclusive round of golf in the company of a small group and take the opportunity to play on beautiful courses worldwide. These shore excursions include transfers, green fees, balls for the driving range, trolleys or e-carts (subject to availability). An expert PGA golf professional will take care of the organisation and warm-up on site.

During your cruise, look forward to some lovely surprises with a succession of carefully organised events, such as a barbecue on a remote beach, exclusive concerts at special locations or local folk groups to welcome you at the pier. Time and again, our on-board team will prepare some unforgettable moments for you.

Discover our exciting destinations actively from a completely new perspective. Our bike guide will show you the most beautiful and interesting places in the world - often off the beaten track. You can choose from a wide range of tours* with different levels of difficulty. Would you like to start actively on a mountain bike or do you prefer an assisted e-bike? Our bike guide on board will be happy to advise you on which tour with which bike will give you the best riding experience. We recommend that you bring your own bike clothing. A cycle helmet and a sports rucksack are provided on board, as well as water and energy bars. SPD clipless pedals can also be fitted on request.

You are welcome to bring your own bike clothing with you. On board, we will provide you with a bike helmet and a sports rucksack, as well as a bottle of water and an energy bar.

Insider tips from knowledgeable experts open up some exceptional experiences of architecture, art or history. Doors to gardens, museums and churches that remain closed to others will often be opened – come and take a look behind the scenes.

Renowned experts joining you on board will share their extensive knowledge with you in some interesting lectures. They will also guide shore excursions, pointing out things that normal visitors might not otherwise notice. Experiences in small groups that make a big impression.

These excursions are designed especially for children and work perfectly without parents, such as when we go to see the penguins and turtles in New Zealand, explore Barcelona by way of a photo safari or enjoy the fine weather swimming and snorkelling off Langkawi. The childcare service will ensure that they take sun cream and drinks, for example, depending on what it is on the programme.

Teens can descend in a submarine to view the brightly coloured underwater world of the Caribbean, or race to Paphos beach on a mountain-bike tour and much more. And if the family is travelling together, we might, for instance, demonstrate our skills on the climbing course just outside Oslo, marvel at the sights of London from the height of a massive Ferris wheel, or set out on a real adventure through the rain forest of Puerto Rico.

Our classic excursions will give you your first impressions of the region. For those who prefer to be active and get to know a country and its people from a new perspective, we also provide adventure trips and active tours, such as hiking, Segway, boat and kayak tours and snorkelling.

The younger sister of the Sansibar on Sylt sees much more of the world: the view from the open-air bar over the sea and the parties on the dance floor to DJ sounds are unforgettable. And for a late breakfast and small dishes in the afternoon and evening, it is also the top location.

With its incomparable panorama, the Belvedere is a cozy place to linger. But above all, it is an atmospheric lounge where readings and concerts also take place.

The piano bar follows the tradition of bars in classic grand hotels: you can reflect on the day with a first-class drink and pleasantly understated music from the Steinway grand piano. You can also enjoy a sea view that probably no other hotel in the world can offer.

With its cosy bar and lounge area and small stage, Club 2 adapts to the theme of the itinerary and is constantly reinventing itself with its colour and lighting concept. A walk through the bright corridors of the EUROPA 2 is as inspiring as a day in a museum of contemporary art. More than 890 original paintings and exhibits, photographs and sculptures - from Damien Hirst to Gerhard Richter - accompany the ship and its guests around the world. This collection is complemented by changing exhibitions and lectures by artists on various art historical topics.

The sea can be experienced particularly intensively on the spacious teak pool deck. Impressive focal point is the long pool that invites guests to calmly swim their lengths or exercise with gentle aqua-fitness. Here, at the heart of the EUROPA 2, there is plenty of room for each individual guest to let his thoughts wander and simply do nothing. Comfortable sun lounges are available for every guest to enjoy either the sun or shade – both in pleasant airy as well as sheltered areas.

On the EUROPA 2 we have created the Knopf Club*, a special area for 2- and 3-year-olds, where there is all sorts of things to discover:

• So that you can sleep in peace, we offer the late riser service* on sea days: our nannies then pick up the little ones at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast.

Real adventures for young explorers

Exploring extraordinary regions, experiencing the world intensively and gaining fascinating insights from experienced experts - the tried and tested expedition concept of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises can also be found in the trips for young explorers. Varied, entertaining and youth-friendly, both the crew and a renowned expert offer an exciting program for 10 to 17 year olds. This allows the whole family to experience unforgettable expedition moments.

Note: Minimum of 5 participants. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the trip will be cancelled at least four weeks before the start of the trip.

Become an Explorer

The program, which is specially designed for teenagers, awakens and encourages the curiosity of young explorers. With a little nautical knowledge on board, on Zodiac excursions, during activities on land or while using a microscope, acquiring knowledge in the areas of oceanography, geology and geography becomes fun among peers. In addition to an experienced scientific expert, numerous crew members ensure that knowledge is imparted in an age-appropriate manner - from the captain to the navigation officer and the ship's cook. The many discoveries and experiences make every day of the vacation a real adventure.

Learn seaman's jargon - "Landlubbers" become little "sailors" on board - your visit to the captain on the bridge and the question and answer sessions with the officers give you exciting insights into seafaring: from reading a sea and depth chart to explanations of navigation, radar and depth sounder.

Expand your knowledge - You can discover the raw materials of the sea with your own eyes. For example, millions of years old ores are examined under the microscope to explore the topic of "geological marine deposits'. Examining microfossils under the microscope also gives you a fascinating insight into the history of the oceans.

XXL holiday fun - "Action!" is the motto at the cinema evening just for kids. With popcorn, of course. You can order "One pizza with everything!" at the pizza evening. And if you have a talent for tracking, you might win the rally through the ship. Lots of variety! That's what holidays should be like.
